Let me tell you a story about “Twenzy”; a newcomer in the Food and Beverage market.
The story started in 2016. I visited India to launch an IT company with colleagues (I arrived late that day). I headed directly to the hotel and took a nap then went to work. Sometime in the afternoon, I had lunch at a famous restaurant; at the time I was non-vegan, so I decided to get the chicken. The following day, I experienced the worst stomachache that it prevented me from moving. I was stuck, immobile in my bed and my colleagues couldn’t enter the room to help me. I was waking up nonstop during the nights. Fortunately, after a few of days I had the strength to get out of bed and go to the hospital.
The First Chapter of My Journey
I was greeted with and elderly doctor, and I was surprised at how well his posture was, made him look like younger. The doctor informed me that I had food poisoning, therefore he proceeded to give me the appropriate medication. I was astonished by the doctor’s health, so I asked him how old he was, and he replied that he was 80 years of age, but he was in such great health that I couldn’t believe my ears. I proceeded to ask him what his secret was and he replied with “I love animals therefore I don’t eat them, and that is my secret to my good health”. That visit changed my life to the better and that is when I embarked my vegan journey.
After my trip, I returned to Dubai and found it difficult to continue with my vegan journey because it was very tough to find delicious vegan food. It dawned upon me that I have a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and that I have had 2 years worth of cooking experience. This inspired me to take my skills to the kitchen and I started recreating vegan meals. I started serving my meals to family and friends and by doing this I was able to introduce many people to veganism and allowing them to experience the true joy of eating healthy and eating delicious vegan food.
Veganism is not about giving anything up or losing anything; it is about gaining the peace within yourself that comes from embracing nonviolence and refusing to participate in the exploitation of the vulnerable
I was still lost and did not fully understand veganism, so I took it upon myself to learn more about it and that is when I decided to travel to Asia, Europe and the USA. It was a long year of travelling; it was worth the exhaustion because I have gained so much knowledge and experienced different cultures and thoughts around veganism from different religious and cultural backgrounds.
This journey turned my light bulb on. I headed back to Dubai and started on another adventure. With the help of my colleague Vidhun and our team in India we have created “Twenzy”, ‘The new meaning of vegan’. The way Twenzy works is by getting recipes from chefs around the globe and those dishes are recreated in our hubs, and then sent directly to your doorsteps. The best part is that it is 100% vegan.
